@Netmatters I'm having the exact same problem on a HP 360 G5 with Ubuntu
Server 64 11.10.

Everything was working fine until Ubuntu Desktop 64 11.04.

During the installation (not an upgrade) of Ubuntu Server 64 11.10, I
manually set up a static IP address, gateway, netmask and DNS server for
eth0  but in the end no network connection was available as expected.

Bug description:
  Installing the latest Beta 1 of Ubuntu 11.10 (downloaded iso on
  09-06-2011) fails after the first reboot with this error:

  udevd[107]: '/sbin/modprobe -bv pci:v000014E4d0000164Csv00001028sd000001B2bc02sc00i00' [172] terminated by signal 9 (Killed)

  Earlier stable versions of Ubuntu Server (11.04) work fine on this
  machine.
