[Bug 902163] Re: Loss of data during resizing partition ?

The filesystem needs some space for its data structures. This may
account for the difference in used space (i.e. if the filesystem is
resized, less space is needed to keep track of things).

One way to ascertain it, if possible, would be to re-resize the disk to
the previous value (i.e. enlarge it), and seeing whether the "used
space" count goes back to what you had before.

What do other tools (for instance, "du -h" in a terminal) say about the
used space?

Title:
  Loss of data during resizing partition ?

Status in “partman-partitioning” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hello
  Performing an installation of Oneiric amd64 desktop, choosing manual partitioning, I've resized /dev/sda3 containing few data, and at the end of the operation the size of the used space was reduced (look screenshot 1), I decided to try again and i reduce again this partition and the used space was reduced again (screenshot 2)

  Dimensione = Dimension
  Utilizzato = Used
  Spazio libero = Free space

  In the screenshot 1 we can see the 'Utilizzato' measuring 18768 MB,
  but after reduction of /dev/sda3 it now measure 18610 MB (screenshot
  2)

  Thanks
  Fabio
