Title:
11.04 install fails with I/O error during file copy
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Hi all,
I'm trying a fresh install on a new WD Caviar Green 1TB SATA3 drive
using Ubuntu 11.04 AMD64 install cd. Ubuntu should be the only OS
installed on the drive. Have tried 2 different ODD one internal LG
SATA DVD and external USB DVD with same result. The mobo is AsRock
A75M if that means something and trying to install Ubuntu in BIOS mode
(mentioning this since this mobo is UEFI enabled too) and AHCI mode
for the SATA controller.
After partitioning with partman (or with already prepared partitions
preor install) the installer fails in around 25% of process at
"copying files" stage of the install. The error says that the file
copy failed due to not able to write to the HDD and to check the
CD/DVD and/or HDD for possible problems. Since I've tried two
different DVD drives, the DVD problem is not really possible. I also
checked the drive with fsck before install and no faults were
reported.
I created 4 partitions as follows and in order given below:
/dev/sda1 /boot ext4 around 1GB (tried with smaller too)
/dev/sda2 / ext4 around 30GB
/dev/sda3 swap swap around 8GB
/dev/sda4 /home ext4 the rest of the 1TB drive so ~ 950GB
What I noticed after the last failed install was that the /home
partition was left in "unknown" state when viewed with gparted. I can
also see in the syslog/partman log that the installer has some
problems determining the file type of this partition.
I'll try to attach the syslog and partman log as requested by the
installer pop-up to this bug report. Please let me know if any other
details needed.
Thanks,
Igor
