[Bug 898807] [NEW] Clicking "Install Updates" button causes Update Manager window to gray out and become unresponsive; updates do not get installed

Public bug reported:

The Update Manager window grays out and becomes unresponsive when the
"Install Updates" button is clicked, and the mouse cursor shows its busy
animation while held over it. A dialog for the update progress is
supposed to appear, but never does; the program thus becomes stuck like
this until several minutes later when it regains color and
responsiveness but still shows all the updates it was supposed to do.

As a workaround, updates can still be performed by using sudo apt-get
update && sudo apt-get upgrade.
