update to my original comment, the part:
i tried manual to maybe re use the partition, it had the label for my raid5 array but was listing the single 320gb hard drive.
Id like to revise and extend my remarks for the record. When trying yet
another install, instead of let it create another partition i had tried
to manually use one of the linux partitions it already made, but when it
showed the single 320gb drive and then showed the name used for the
different RAID array, i stopped and backed out then let it create
another partition. I checked into this, the 320gb drive is connected to
the JMicron RAID controller (only 2 SATA connectors) in the motherboard,
as opposed to the Intel ch7? RAID controller that has 3 SATA connectors.
the JMicron RAID is configured as a standard IDE/SATA with no name, the
Intel RAID has a name for the "volume". At the time i wrote the
original report i overlooked that the single drive was connected to a
"RAID" controller, it says raid at bootup. However it should NOT have
used the volume name for the 3 drive RAID, and thats the suspicious
part.
When the single drive boots it begins by the DOS boot selector screen,
defaulting to windows with 0 seconds wait time, so you have to hit
either arrow key up/down fast just before booting; then it goes to the
Ubuntu boot menu that has the working installation at the top, recovery
second, then about 10+ other ubuntu installations to choose from with
nearly identical text, some say SDA... and a number.
I have tried without success to "see" either of the other 2 disk volumes
that were working. i connected the RAID5 drives and enabled them in
bios, it gets the lame GRUB menu that does nothing; or the other single
drive doesnt boot, it shows up in the bios setup but linux cannot see
it. Still have a problem trying to figure out how to access those
drives. the RAID5 is there and is installed but in the folder view its
not showing up...

Title:
kubuntu installer crashes at the end
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
asus p5w-dh motherboard about 6gb ram, ati video card on the pci bus,
has a single drive and also a raid5 array.
it gets past asking location and time zone and is well into installing
and when it looks like its finished just reports the installer
crashed. this time which is the 5th? i read thee instructions and
typed up the command to collect and report the logfile. on the
terminal window it would say some error client id killed? i already
had konquerer open, closed it then again ran the command and this time
it has dozens of errors that read connect: Cannot connect
(null)::walletOpened(bool) toKWebWallet::
so its not obvious if it reported anything or not. i had this error
when there was no internet connection at the time of running, then
enabled internet and ran, same exact thing.
i had the same error when running with the raid5 enabled or had it
disabled in bios. ONE problem that stood out, when trying to run the
partition window, it has created another SDA each time its runs, i
tried manual to maybe re use the partition, it had the label for my
raid5 array but was listing the single 320gb hard drive.
Running this kubuntu install is from a CD that was made with an iso
file downloaded in the past couple days from ubuntu, running this on
my other configuration, it obliterated my windows Vista login, all
that happens is a grub screen appears. type boot it says no kernel
loaded. type load it says command not recognized.
had to add another hard drive to the system; thought ahead to backup
some of those files, then try to install kubuntu. this is about the
10th-11th attempt to install Kubuntu including the ones with Wubi that
did not install properly on the other drive and on the raid5. that
one is 149 x 3 where its just 149x2 or 298Gb (or so) the single hard
drive is 320gb
