  Installer crashed during fresh install on Dell Ibspiron laptop

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  The last message which the installer displayed was:
  "Checking for packages to install"

  Installation was from a Kubuntu 11.10 amd64 desktop CD, into a ext3
  partition (for '/').  The original Windows partitions were present,
  with the main Windows partition reduced in size.

  Internet access by ethernet was connected and working.
