Ubuntu 11.04 64bit+mac should not break MacBooks - they does not have
EFI in it(32-bit version too), it will install in BIOS Emulation mode ;)
2) it is problem with setting GRUB to be default bootloader on EFI 1.x
btw. If anyone could try Ubuntu 11.10 daily ISO's that would be great, I
want other people to confirm that this stoped breaking MacBooks - GRUB
is set as default bootloader. I tried daily iso few times and it work!
GRUB installs ok, and does not break MacBook.
If more people can confirm this, then this bug can be set as fixed in
Oneiric.

Bug description:
Dear all,
I am experiencing a severe problem after a new install of Natty
Narwhal on my Macbook Pro last night:
The install worked fine, but after reboot nothing came up except fo a black screen.
After forcing the machine off and on multiple times I was able to bring up the rEFIt boot menu by pressing and holding the 'Alt' (or Option) key and I can then boot into MacOSX or Ubuntu without a problem.
After restarting / powering off I then have to turn the computer on /
off the same number of times (3 or 4, I don't remember exactly) where
nothing happens until it works again.
I am using a MacbookPro 5,5 (13.3 Inch). My harddisk is setup as follows:
200MB Partition for EFI
20GB Partition for OSX
18.6 GB Partition for / (ext4)
108.49 GB Partition for /home (ext4)
1.86 GB Partition for swap
Other people also seem to experience the same issue:

This is a pretty big problem for me, so your help is very much
appreciated.
