This bug report was about *overriding* of hdparm.conf settings. The
section of /lib/hdparm/hdparm-functions in question implements *support*
for setting the hdparm option via hdparm.conf.

Title:
  acpi-support's 90-hdparm.sh overwrites hdparm.conf's apm settings

Status in “acpi-support” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Since acpi-support versions
  - Intrepid: acpi-support (0.114-0intrepid2),
  - Hardy: acpi-support (0.109-0hardy2)
acpi-support's 90-hdparm.sh sets apm level 128 or 254 for all hard disks (good).
This overwrites any apm setting from /etc/hdparm.conf (not so good).

  Options:
  1) acpi-support should set apm before hdparm.conf (probably difficult as hdparm.conf is applied by udev)
  2) acpi-support should check wether an apm level has been defined in hdparm.conf for the hd
