This is actually already fixed in the version of mountall included with
Oneiric and while this bug may exist with Lucid it isn't something which
we'd preform a Stable Release Update of the package. Here is the code
from Oneiric:

        update = NIH_MUST (nih_sprintf (NULL, "fsck:%s:%d:%s",
                                        MOUNT_NAME (mnt), progress,
                                        _("Checking disk %1$d of %2$d (%3$d %% complete)")));

** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Fix Released

Title:
  Disk check message has inconsistent spelling: "disk" and "disc".

Status in “mountall” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
  mountall version: 2.15.3

  During the routine disk check when booting the system, the message for
  the user begins:

  "Your disk drives are being checked for errors, this may take some time
  Checking disc 1 of 1"

  The first line uses "disk" but the second uses "disc". This is
  inconsistent. One spelling should be used in both instances. I suggest
  the "disk" spelling for both, since "disc" usually seems to refer to
  optical media.
