I'm sure it's due to the different boot loader (syslinux vs. GRUB), but
regardless, the kernel should Just Work without the need for nomodeset,
so reassigning.

** Package changed: ubiquity (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)

Title:
live cd requires nomodeset option to boot while when installed not
  needed

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Starting with dailies of 08/20 and continuing to today's I'm needing
to set the nomodeset option to get the live cd to boot up. Otherwise
it's a 100% failure rate, boot always fails after checking battery
  state

On the other hand I don't nor ever have needed this option when installed and this is the 1st. live cd to ever need this
Seems wrong that a kernel option is only needed for the live cd
(I also believe this is seen by many others
