Title:
update-manager crashed with TypeError in normalize(): character
mapping must return integer, None or unicode

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  1) Description:	Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
  Release:	11.10

  2) update-manager:
    Installed: 1:0.152.10
     Candidate: 1:0.152.10
    Version table:
   *** 1:0.152.10 0
          500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3 & 4) Expected Updates from partial installation to continue. Saw
MANY errors (mainly GNOME related) during today's Upgrade which I was
running under Unity 2D at the time (most stable for my computer) ...
I was already running 11.10 Daily Build (for about 2 week now).
Incidentally, 11.10 will now no longer boot into GNOME at all (fails
at logon). I booted into Unity and this error came up directly
following the aforementioned, "Partial Upgrade" reboot.

When I run upgrade-manager now, it shows no items following the
Partial Upgrade. Will attempt to login to Unity 2D next to see what
  happens.
