Closer investigation reveals that the text is simply not legible in
either the "use as" or "mount point" drop-down dialogs until the text is
"moused-over". Once you hover the mouse pointer over each line of text
the otherwise black background becomes orange one line at a time making
it possible to read and select the desired options.
Otherwise the grey text on a black background is simply not legible at
all.

Title:
Manual partitioning not possible with ubiquity 2.7.15
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I've been following up on a few ubiquity bugs and I noticed the FFE
bug 825274 so I decided to perform some tests. As mentioned there
you've made some really great progress but I notice one serious
regression.
If you choose the "something else" option it's really impossible to
progress beyond that. If you select a "free-space" or an existing
partition it's not possible to "change" it (see the screenshot at post
#10 in bug 825274).
To reproduce just try the "use as" option after clicking on change. Or
if using free space and clicking on add you'll also find "use as"
borked.
I hope I did this half way right, I'm super tired.
