Title:
KARMIC Grub Doesnt Play Nice With Mounted NTFS Partitions
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: grub
In the version of ubuntu Grub that came with Ubuntu Karmic Beta. Grub
doesnt act right with my windows ntfs partitions.
The problem is that grub fails to boot my windows ntfs partition. It
will load the startup screen(s) for Windows Vista, either in the
format of the "Windows had problems starting up. Would you like to
launch start-up repair or Launch Windows normally?"
Either selection will show the splash screen for Windows but the
computer will abruptly after the splash screen disappears. This course
of action will happen an infinite amount of times.
I discovered that though, this only happens based upon the last
shutdown from within ubuntu, if the ntfs drive was mounted or not.
The Karmic edition of Ubuntu will not automatically mount the
additional partitions without a password. If I mount the partition and
enter my password for my NTFS partition and restart it will boot into
Windows Vista no problem. However, if I start Ubuntu and lets say I
dont need to access my NTFS partition so I never enter the password
for it, and thus Ubuntu never accesses it, then the aformentioned
problem arises.
Please let me know if you need additional information logs, or OGG
format video of this scenario happening as it is easily reproducable?
Thx.
Hopefully, this will get marked as an immediate issue because, if a
user doesnt "mount" their ntfs windows partition and Ubuntu craps out
then they are stuck with a completely unbootable system.
