The lack of a shutdown/restart button in the top-right menu is a known
bug and is mentioned in the Ubuntu release notes.

I can't fully understand what you are saying - do you mean that Ubuntu
is running fine from your hard drive now, even after the installer
crashed? Or does it just fail on boot (from the hard drive)?
