I do have the same initial problem. The pause in 7-18 seconds. I tried
to disable usb support by appending  "nousb" to the kernel line in the
grub boot menu by pressing "e". However this doesn't do the trick for
me. Can you confirm that. Probably the pause doesn't have anything to do
with usb [sdb] at all.

  I see that computer when boots have pauses without any output and log
  reports at first 15 seconds of boot process. This pauses exists every
  boot and at same time (+-second)

  The pauses is in 2 to 6 seconds of boot (4 seconds) and in 7-18
  seconds (11 seconds).

  What does the system wait in this time? I can turn on more debug log?
  How I can speed up or disable this processes?
