Title:
  it's not possible to install the bootloader at the specified partition
  after -  install without the bootloader -  the installer crashed

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  installation ubuntu 11.10 alpha 3 on an external usb disk
  this also happans on an internal disk installation
  Lenovo T500 laptop 

  The same problem also with ubuntu 10.10 alpha 2
