Title:
syntax highlighting will not work, unless I am root
Status in “vim” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: vim
I used to use vim often for editing, and am certain that syntax
highlighting was available. After the upgrade there is no color, and
even
:syntax enable
:syntax on
does nothing, however
:set syntax
gives me the correct file type
If I log in as root, syxtax highlighting works out of the box,
and our .vimrc files are identical, so is .vim/ and .viminfo because cp would not let me copy it.
it seems like others have had the same problem, however i could not find a solution. This guy had a similar problem.

I have tried upgrading my vim packages, installing vim-common, vim-runtime, vim-gnome, editing /etc/vim/vimrc, but to no avail

/etc/vim/vimrc : http://paste.ubuntu.com/604897/
