Oops-sent this out last night but forgot to "reply to all" so here it is. Also, just changed the /etc/network/interfaces like I thought of below in effort to "switch back" to correct nic roles. However at some time, quite possibly last Friday, the ports took on opposite roles, the giga nic stopped sending out ips and instead the 100 MB nic which connected to the building wan and provided the connection to the internet all of a sudden started being a dhcp server and in the process took down part of the network.<br> <br>I've tried just changing eth0 to eth1, and eth1 to eth0, then restarting the network but that didn't work (RTNETLINK answers: No such process and more). Tried to restart the dhcp3 server as well and rebooting but to no avail. So in brief, the nics have switched their proper roles and I need to get them back. I typed exactly the same info in the /etc/network/interfaces file as is in that file in the server that's working--that Just had an idea: Instead of changing the eth0 and eth1 around, would it make any difference if I left those lines in place and changed the configs for each nic?
