Arduino IDE on Fat Client

Well I just apt-get installed the arduino packages including the openjdk
and associated dependencies then reset all of the java, javac and javaws
using update-alternatives -- back to the java 7 installation...

What I don't have is a ttyACM0 or usb port in /dev of the chroot. When I
plug in an Uno into a fat client and run dmesg it is recognized at
/ttyACM0... I had hoped to just either chmod a+rw /dev/ttyACM0 or chmod
666 /dev/ttyACM0 so that all of my students could use their Arduinos but
the /dev/ttyACM# inodes don't exist in /dev.

This also means that setting a new udev rule /etc/udev/rules.d/ as
suggested doesn't work either.

So I now have the common arduino Serial Port Greyed Out issue and the usual
fixes don't work. At least my Java7 specialty apps (BCESIS... uggg),
replicatorg and a few others still work!

Ideas? Thanks, Jim
