I have been trying a few more things and still no luck. A little more
about my setup:

 1. The server runs in a Virtual Box VM with two NICs, eth0 connected
via Virtual Box NAT to our LAN, eth1 connected to an internal
network called 'edubuntu' with promiscuous mode set to 'allow all'.
 2. The client runs in a Virtual Box VM with one NIC connected to an
internal network called 'edubuntu' with promiscuous mode set to
    'allow all'.

The only thing I can think of is that the server's dhcp server does run
on eth0, instead of eth1. Is there a way of checking that?
