Blender Fails To Start

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have blender-2.49a (the one
included with ubuntu) working on their thin clients?

I tried the 2.50 alpha and that one also gives the DRI error.

However... I am able to run 2.48a (slowly)
I think that it will work for me at least for now.
