Is ubuntu trying to resolve localhost to an ipv6 address?

Ok, Thanks Gavin,
I think that's not the behaviour I want since I am not running ipv6
and I don't need the extra chatter on the network.
If I change /etc/modprobe.d/aliases to read
alias net-pf-10 ipv6 off
will bad things happen?
Thanks for your advice.
John
