Looks like what I am dealing with is this bug.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp/+bug/365380 I am on
Dell Optiplex 745 clients with one NIC only. Needs more
investigation... It works fine with LTSP on 8.10 though.
