Multible servers

How to sett up multiple servers. And if a understand right you have one
primary server and then lets to clients connecto to that server witch send
the traffic to one of the real servers behind,

The primary server holds all of the clinets boot files and then only the
session and all of the task are done one the real servers behind ?

Can a use  another server as primary ore must the conflagration be the
same on all servers both real and the primary server?
