Thats it! I wonder how that worked under LTSP 4.2 from where I took it by copy
& paste.
These are the correct settings for the igel clients:
[igel]
XSERVER = nsc
X_COLOR_DEPTH = 16
X_MODE_0 = 1024x768
X_VERTREFRESH = 56-75
X_HORZSYNC = 31-83
Reviewing the thread and reading the bug traces Oliver cited in his mail,
there is still a misconception about the problem.

For the igel clients the only possible XSERVER is "nsc", "geode" does not
work. Regarding this observation Olivers statement was not feasible for me.
The Information at XOrg clarifies the discrepancy:
Please read [1] for the ambiguity in detecting cyrix vs. nsc hardware and [2]
about the merging of cyrix, nsc and geode Driver, which is still on the
roadmap for further versions of the geode driver but not implemented yet.
Now I understand why the X configuration process selects the wrong
driver "cyrix" as long as "nsc" is not forced by the correct XSERVER variable
and why the "geode" driver is not applicable for nsc hardware.
Anyway, thanks for discussion and your help! We proceeded towards implementing
LTSP 5 in our school without loosing older hardware.
