sound on edubuntu 7.04-beta

Moin!

For our primary school I am testing edubutu. It is very important, that all programms play sound on the clients. A test system with edubuntu 6.10 did sound with esd, but many programms don't work with esd.

So I test edubuntu 7.04-beta, because it should work with pulseaudio, but not on my system. I only have installed the system, and got the updates today. If I switch of esd and systemsounds sound in the gnome audio configuration the system works fine.

with "play /usr/share/sounds/login.wav" the sound comes from the server.

If I activate the systemsounds from gnome, the system gets very slow.

On the clients "lspci" shows this soundcard:
00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Sound Controller (rev a0)

lsmod | grep snd on the client:
snd_intel8x0           34844  0
snd_ac97_codec         97696  1 snd_intel8x0
snd_ac97_bus            3456  1 snd_ac97_codec
snd_pcm_oss            47360  0
snd_mixer_oss          19584  1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm                84612  3 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer              25348  1 snd_pcm
snd_mpu401              9640  0
snd_mpu401_uart        10240  1 snd_mpu401
snd_rawmidi            27264  1 snd_mpu401_uart
snd_seq_device          9868  1 snd_rawmidi
snd                    58372  10 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mpu401,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device
soundcore              11232  1 snd
snd_page_alloc         11400  2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm

My /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf looks like this:
[default]
    SOUND=True
    LOCALDEV=True
    NBD_SWAP=True
    SYSLOG=Server
    SERVER=192.168.1.22
    X_COLOR_DEPTH=16
    XkbLayout=de

With "SOUND_DAEMON=pulse" the gconfd does not start in the right way.
"SMODULE_01=snd_intel8x0" does not change anything.

So i want to ask two questions:

1) How can I get on a terminal at the client, to test whether the modules are loaded? It also can be a a telnet/ssh connection.

2) I haved searched for pulseaudio in synaptic-package-manager. Only libgstreamer-plugins-pulse and libpulse is installed. Pulseaudio, pulseaudio-esound-compat are not installed. Is this right?

Thank you
Kai Wüstermann
