Hello,
I too followed the instructions on the wiki without success, but in this
thread on the forum...
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=406220
...it suggests that changing the line in the /etc/rc.local file to this.
x11vnc -display :6 -forever -loop &

That worked for me.
