D-Link driver installation

I've set up a laptop with Edubuntu for my daughter but I'm having trouble getting wireless working for internet access.

I'm using a D-Link DWL-122 (usb dongle) which should work with linux-wlan-ng, but when I go through the installation instructions I get to the part where I've got to do something in the /etc/hotplug/ folder (I think), but there is no such folder!

Then I tried installing the ndiswrapper instead but the "make" command wouldn't run ("unknown command" or something).

I work in IT but I'm afraid that UNIX is a mystery to me. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers.
Barry.
