Updating Ubuntu

I meant to say the actual KERNELS are probably not there anymore. In my experience, the third oldest one gets erased after you update to a new one.

/boot/grub/menu.lst
 
I'm guessing only the two latest kernel versions are actually there still (you may want to test this), so you shouldn't need to worry about getting rid of the old ones.
