Think twice - and then wait

I have twice performed a clean install of 7.04, followed by an update to 7.10
on one of my three servers. In both instances I had local device support in
7.04 and then lost it in 7.10. A clean install of 7.10 on this machine was
twice unsuccessful. A clean install on another of my servers went well and
those clients have local device support. So my third server will sit in
limbo with 7.04, as I am unwilling to chance an update (too much invested in
that lab to perform a clean install). It's a real crap shoot.

I have followed the suggestions offered in other posts to enable local
device support, but to no avail. At this time I'm not certain that there is
consensus on why this issue exists, but until it is addressed, and if usb
device support is essential, I'd wait.
