I presume this is because your windows machines are using DHCP and the
PDC runs dynamic DNS.  Every time a client gets an ip address it gives back
its name and a DNS entry gets registered.

Your edubuntu server should probably have a static ip address so you really
need to login to the PDC and create a DNS entry by hand.
