Sounds like a good plan.
What sort of bandwidth will sound use per desktop? Do I presume esd is
smart enough not to use bandwidth during silence?

XKBMODEL might be nice. Unless a sensible local default is set
automatically from elsewhere?
Is SYSLOG_HOST set by default?
