So if you use a subnet <a href="http://192.168.0.0/16">192.168.0.0/16</a> (class B) the gateway can be <a href="http://192.168.0.255">192.168.0.255</a> but the netmask is <a href="http://255.255.0.0"> 255.255.0.0</a> and broadcast address is <a href="http://192.168.255.255">192.168.255.255</a>, if you use subnet <a href="http://192.168.1.0/24">192.168.1.0/24</a> (class C) the gateway can be one address in <a href="http://192.168.1.1"> 192.168.1.1</a> to <a href="http://192.168.1.254">192.168.1.254</a> (by convention 1 or 254), the netmask is <a href="http://255.255.255.0">255.255.255.0</a> and the broadcast address is <a href="http://192.168.1.255"> 192.168.1.255</a>.
