Hello fellow educators and students! We’ve updated Edubuntu with a new
wallpaper and added some security features in-line with Ubuntu desktop.
We are excited for these small, but mighty changes to help you get the
most out of Edubuntu.

Desktop (amd64) and Raspberry Pi 5 (arm64+raspi) Images may be
downloaded fromhttps://cdimages.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/releases/24.10/release.

*Where’s the website?*
Our website is currently a placeholder website available
athttps://edubuntu.org<https://edubuntu.org/>courtesy ofAaron Prisk, and
we are still working with Canonical IS or others to establish a more
permanent website where we can make these posts and more, including
administration instructions and other documentation. We do apologize
that it is taking so long.

  Features*

  * We have*changed our default wallpaper*for this and the next two
releases. This will distinguish these releases for this LTS cycle
    until the next LTS.
  * This release includes*GNOME 47*.
  * Like Ubuntu Desktop, Edubuntu now includes the*Permissions Prompting
and the Security Center*as outlined inOliver Smith's
    post<https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-desktop-s-24-10-dev-cycle-part-5-introducing-permissions-prompting/47963>.

This release is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. We didn’t have
much time this cycle to work through our applications and determine
which applications are out there to add new ones, so there’s not much
new in terms of new applications this cycle.

  Issues*

  * We are sad to see the removal of*gbrainy*. Sadly, gbrainy is no
longer developed and is no longer compatible with the build system
and was removed from both Debian and Ubuntu.
  * Upon first boot, the system will reboot. This is normal, and is the
mechanism to set the logo for the login screen.
  * KDE/Qt apps use a blue accent color as opposed to a red accent color
or whatever accent color is set by the user in the System Settings.
There is no known fix currently, however future releases may have
other configurations which allow this. There areongoing
    discussions<https://invent.kde.org/teams/vdg/issues/-/issues/26>that
seem to have come to a halt.
  * GNOME Notes has a search provider for the Activities Overview which
    willsometimes crash <https://launchpad.net/bugs/2012985>.
  * The new Ubuntu welcome app branding does not match Edubuntu. We’re
    working on ways to resolve
    this,<https://launchpad.net/bugs/2060817>and next cycle it looks
like we’ll likely have a fluter-based welcome application to
    replace|gnome-initial-setup|.
  * On the Raspberry Pi, the first login will have theUbuntu logo as
opposed to the Edubuntu logo <https://launchpad.net/bugs/2060815>.
  * As Edubuntu shares a desktop with and is based on Ubuntu Desktop,
any known issues can be found in the officialUbuntu Release
    Notes<https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/oracular-oriole-release-notes/44878>.
  * Individual applications included with Edubuntu may have their own
known issues. Please consult upstream release notes for those
    applications before filing bug reports
