Thanks all for the comments.

This is the final one:
* Calculator
* Evolution Mail
* Evolution Calendaring
* Firefox Web Browser
* Gaim Instant Messenger
* Openoffice Word Processor
* Openoffice Spreadsheet
* Texteditor

Some final notes:

[1] Naming

The mail list caused some debate as to naming of application NAMES as
opposed to naming of application TASKS, but Oliver cleared that up with
the following:

> well, we wont touch the .desktop files that contain the default names
> and translations indeed. this is all about menu structure, not about
> the entries (else we'd have to touch every .desktop file in the system
> to present the name we want, that's not doable with the manpower we

[2] editor & word processor

> How do you explain to the new user why you have
> an "editor" and a "word processor"?

Text editor was debated as a quick and dirty:

* Take notes while you listen to a discussion on
  how to cut open the frog.
* Format text in a later lesson for Frog Report.

[3] spreadsheet

Spreadsheets are potentially used in:
* physics science lessons for list based calculations or
  recording of data
* accountancy & financials

[4] presentation

We feel students would seldom build a presentation themselves. They may
open one as instructed, but that would be a double click on a file.

Thanks all for the comments.
