thin client almost there... but not quite

Just installed Edubuntu 5.10. Updated it. Configured my DHCP. My thin
clients start to load the kernel and then I get...

mount: Mounting /root/dev on /dev/.static/dev failed: No such file or
directory
mount: Mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: No such file or directory
Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

Any ideas what I'm missing?
