Problem with sound and usb-stick

Hi

I have som problem with the sound and usb-stick on edubuntu.
Im using nis to control the users and when a nis user is using the system
the user can´t use the sound or the connect there usb -stick.

But when a local user is logged in  before the nis is turn on the sound and
usb-stick is working.

Almost every kid have there on mp3 player and it should be nice if they can
take home some of there work
