the default behavior for xscreensaver run from a thin client should be
to blank only, this was fixed in version 4.21-4ubuntu9 (i thought).
could you please run:
dpkg -l xscreensaver
and check if the LTSP_CLIENT environment variable is set during the ltsp
session ?

if your version is newer than or matches -4ubuntu9 and the variable is
set, please file a bug in bugzilla.ubuntu.com for package xscreensaver.
