I think Tom has a good point here. Books aren't particularly new-school,
are they. Think iPod and other interactive gizmos...
My guess is that the majority on this list are keen readers and it's
therefore not surprising that the logo with the book comes out as a
favourite? (I like it a lot too :-)
Shouldn't the question be: Who is the main "target" audience? Educators,
learners, or even parents? Maybe a more useful question yet: Who is the
audience *where the logo/style plays an important role* for them to
adopt edubuntu?
If we agree that an "official", universal logo is needed, for the
recognition factor: Which design would appeal equally to a 6-year old, a
teenage pupil and, let's say, a 30/40-something parent/educator?? Tough
decision.
Having said that, and not falling into any of the above categories, I
vote for #17. I think it ties in nicely with the ubuntu logo, while
adding an element of "for people who want to learn".
