Colin & Jonathan,

I really like the screenshots. Also great to hear about the ISO that is
on its way.

I managed to install my own LTSP server over the long weekend as per
documentation in a prior posting by Colin. Only thing I had trouble
with is the TFTP module, but that got solved after I installed ATFTP.
Great to experience the work in progress.

However, as you rightly pointed out Jonathan, post configuration is
probably where the real grunt of the work lies to forfill the promise of
this project. Local access to floppy, USB and even CD is not funtional,
neither is the local sound. I connected 3 clients similtanuously to a
2Ghz Celeron with 256Mb, and everything was flying on Xfce - funny to
notice the Server's CPU graph on the desktop though... I installed
EmelFM as file browser, but you still have to mount stuff, but its
lightweight and works. Security with SU and xterm obviously needs to be
tied down, and Samba needs proper configuration for easy user
functionality.

One big question I have is wheather Edubuntu will provide the broader
scope in regard to a total school solution, i.e. internet access with
content/URL filtering, school admin system, integrated mail,
intranet/website, etc??

Personally I am glad to see the integration of the most prominent
educational software - its great (Developers will soon have to consider
porting to Linux as well at this rate!!). I believe that this will
become a fantastic installation!!

Subject: Skubuntu Screenshots

Hi Edubuntu-devel list!

I've just put up the initial Skubuntu site and some screenshots:
http://www.skubuntu.org.za/?q=node/4

I'll be putting up some more information and updating this list as I do
so. I'll put my ideas on the EdUbuntu wiki as well.

The Skubuntu setup is used in 13 schools at the moment and will be used
in more than 50 schools by the time EdUbuntu is released. The iso should

be ready within the next month or so, but it might die entirely when the

official EdUbuntu is released, we'll see what happens at the meeting
next month ;)
