i'm absolutely with you here, #8 is my favorite too (it has a nice
dynamically motion in it with the raised arm, still shows its ubuntu
roots, is descriptive for all grades with the shown posture and, very
important, is scalable to all sizes without modification (we could have
a 24x24 icon for the panel menu which still is recognizeable as well as
a huge logo for a poster or CD cover)).
but it seems to look like the majority goes for #1 which would be my
second choice.
