Seconded. I hope this doesn't mean that installing apache will install 
mod_php because of downstream dependancies?

Please forgive my ignorance if this is trivially avoidable with dpkg/apt 
et alia. I'm a refugee from the RPM world where decisions like the above 
were all too common. 8^)
