Hi,
for those who only recently joined the DMB. I am leading the
OpenPrinting project [1] [2] and for Ubuntu I have PPU rights for all
printing- and scanning-related packages in Main and I am also MOTU.
With the introduction of the New Architecture for printing and scanning
[3] into Ubuntu some re-structuring is happening in the printing stack
in Ubuntu, which creates some new packages in Main.
After libppd (thanks for the approval) I need now PPU rights for the
packages
- cpdb-libs
- cpdb-backend-cups
- cpdb-backend-file
Their MIRs got approved and the packages promoted an hour ago.
The packages implement the Common Print Dialog Backends [4] concept,
where print dialogs of GUI applications do not talk directly to CUPS any
more but communicate with print technologies like CUPS, cloud-printing
services, or print-to-file by D-Bus with GUI-independent backends and
the backends are developed and maintained by the same people who develop
and maintain the print technology itself, OpenPrinting for the CUPS
backend for example. This makes the print dialogs immediately working
with changes, like now the New Architecture of CUPS and also allows
providers of cloud printing services to make printing to their service
available in all apps, as easy as printing to a local printers.
This way the print dialogs can easily cope with the New Architecture of
printing.
Therefore I would like to ask you whether you could grant me PPU rights
for these three source packages.
If any additional information is needed, please tell me.
