[Bug 96961] changing themes crashes everything

I had installed additional themes.  After changing wallpaper I wanted to
see what it looked like with different themes.  After about 5-6 changes
all applets began crashing, was unable to turn off firefox.  Had so many
crash reports I was unable to report all of them.
