Thanks, Richard, that clarifies things. I've added an upstream bug
report at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421853.

Also: gThumb 2.9/2.10 has a better camera selection dialog. You may be
able to tell it to use the USB mode rather than the PTP mode, which
would provide delete support.

I'm not a gphoto contributor (other than submitting bug reports). I am a
gthumb developer, though.
