[Bug 92055] updating gdm changes settings, locks out root login

Public bug reported:

After updating the gdm package my current settings were reset to
defaults, I could understand this being normal, and a security thing,
but if it changes the ability to log in as root, and my login settings,
which it did, that's no good.
