[Bug 82502] Power Manager Brightness applet "cannot get laptop panel brightness|

This is on current Feisty.

I added the brightness applet and all I get is a blank sun whose tooltip
just says "cannot get laptop panel brightness". On the other hand,
whenever I run the laptop on battery, the screen does get dimmer. Any
help on debugging this would be greately appreciated. Thanks.
