[Bug 55936] Browsing Dropdown Won't Expand Fully

When I try to save a file in Firefox, a dialog comes up.  There is an option to "Browse for other folders."  Clicking on this drops down a browsing area.  It flashes to a normal size but shrinks immediately to showing about two files/folders in the selected directory.  Hiding and expanding will cause the dropdown to open at the correct size.  Sometimes it does this on the first retry, sometimes it takes multiple attempts.
This happens with any dialog of that sort.
Also happens in Thunderbird.
Also happens in OpenOffice.org.
Also happens in Gedit.

Kind of related, when the dialog comes up now, the home folder and
desktop shortcuts on the left have no text or icon and are about 1/4
size.  Moving folders fixes it.
