Thanks for the responses. I've just installed the Gstreamer version
(sudo apt-get install totem-gstreamer) and it works fine. No issues
anymore with this flavor. Is there anything that i need to worry about
by using gstreamer instead of xine? If not, then I'm all set.

that might be fixed with the new versions of Ubuntu edgy or feisty, that
doesn't mean that the new version of the distribution has better
stability than the one you are using though, you should probably not
