Closing the bug, since the Upstream developers have objections it's
probably better to discuss this with them, if you feel strongly about
it.

With regard to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302757 - "It
turns out that the solution was to fix xdgmime and shared-mime-info.
GnomeVFS and shared-mime-info HEAD will work correctly, i.e. always
sniff."
